NOTES
English Intermezzi for 8 voices explores a vocabulary where traditional bel canto is possible, but only is one of the corners in the total room of action. With all nuances of noise and breath, in a continuum against pitched sounds, with gliding microtonal harmony. With simultanous ornaments in dynamics, pitch and phonetics. The total sound is composed of 8 independent and transforming successions of sounds. A constant problem is how the narrative and evenly spaced time of a text can chop up a musical time. Working with text I seek to find a form which is not linearily narrative, but unfolds in tableaus. In the last five minutes, the timing is taken from Akira Kurusawas "The Blizzard", from the collection of short films "Dreams". In these minutes without dialogue every sound is transcribed to musical events. Breath becomes whisper and each avalanche becomes a chord.
Norsk Et stadig problem er hvordan en teksts fortellende og jevnt utdoserte tid kan hugge opp en musikalsk tid. I arbeidet med tekst ønsker jeg å finne en form som ikke er linjært fortellende, men utspiller seg i tablåer. I de siste fem minuttene er timingen hentet fra Akira Kurosawas "The Blizzard", fra kortfilmsamlingen "Dreams". I disse minuttene uten dialog er hver lyd transkribert til musikalske hendelser. Pust blir hvisking og hvert snøskred blir en akkord. |
